Contemporary Understanding of Transgender Identity and Treatment Approaches
Presenters will discuss views on treatment and diagnosis from a range of perspectives, for adults as well as for adolescents and children. Hormone treatments will also be discussed. The information will be of great help for all clinicians to better understand diagnosis and treatment issues and challenges.
Antonia Caretto, Ph.D. - a fully licensed Clinical Psychologist and a graduate of the University of Michigan and the Alliant International University California School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Caretto’s 1991 doctoral dissertation research was on “Familial Homosexuality Among Women and It’s Relationship to Childhood Gender Role Non-Conformity and Adult Sex Role.”
Don Spivak, M.D. - a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. His private practice is in Birmingham, MI.
Dr. Maureen (Mo) Connolly - a pediatrician with Henry Ford Health System’s School-Based and Community Health Program (SBCHP) in Detroit, Michigan. She works with clinical staff to provide care for students at school-based and community clinic sites, with a focus on adolescent health, the care of the LGBTQ youth, and HIV prevention.
